The idea!

We are identical twins, Phil and Paul Gayter and this is an exciting venture for both of us.
"This is my side." It's an exploration of the relationship between twins and "creation." The idea is simple: using multi-media we explored the notion of "creating in a vacuum" of each other. For instance a 16x20 inch canvas is split in half and painted by each twin "blind," meaning they are created without knowledge of the other's finished half.
The following 3 pieces were completed in this way from our respective homes in Kansas City and Washington DC then shipped "covered" to have the other half finished. The paintings were then revealed when the canvas was completed. It was a blast finally seeing the completed work and it showed us that the connections between us are strong. We were very pleased with the results. The rules were simple. No direction on color and content just a blank, white half canvas or some simple linking device or start point. We then created our half in complete freedom.
We are also creating some 3 dimensional installations, film and photography pieces to truly explore the notion of shared DNA and the direction.
Watch this space! The show is coming to a town near you!
